  • The name of the project ?: AMI
  • Comment:

AMI has been designed to be a highly generic framework; it is in fact a very flexible general catalogue system.
AMI is currently used by several applications. The principle use in the Atlas experiment is for production bookkeeping for the data challenges. It is also the base of the Tag Collector application for ATLAS releases management.
One of the characteristics of AMI is that it tries to hide the details of database implementation from clients. If a client queries an AMI database, we do not expect the client to have knowledge of the name of the database, or the name of any database tables, or the relation between the database tables. We have attempted in our architecture to allow clients to query in terms of the application semantics. Thus a user of the AMI production database should be able to work with a schema of datasets, files and events, whereas a tag collector user should be able to think in terms of releases and packages. The same client software could be used by both sets of users.
