Improvements for the search pipeline¶
In the process of selecting the first preliminary cosmic-ray candidates from GP300 for the ICRC 2025, we identified desirable improvements that we would like to see in more robust versions of the searches. They include:
- Develop a single candidate-selection pipeline, instead of stitching two or more pipelines
- Store and use the information about which antennas are active at any one time to improve candidate selection
- Improve knowledge of timing resolution to improve directional reconstruction
- Characterize the irreducible background that survives the cosmic-ray cuts
- Include changes in trigger conditions over time as part of the analysis
- Have a full simulation of the expected distribution of events including both cosmic-ray events and background
- Improve E-field reconstruction; by May of 2025, they did not look optimal, so information extracted from them (fluence, maximum amplitude) might not be trustable
