Description

Additional plugins should be installed to enhance the Redmine capabilities. Here a list of plugins that seem to be very useful from the experience we have with Redmine at IRAP. Please comment, suggest modifications or additions. We should converge on this list quickly and then ask the CC to install these plugins:
  • Redmine Backlogs (A plugin for agile teams)
  • DMSF (Document Management System Features)
  • Redmine Wiki Gchart LaTeX-style Formula plugin

I already asked CC for the DMSF plugin on April 25 because Sylvie needs it quite urgently but I have no news yet about this installation.

Are all these plugins compatible with v2.3.0 of redmine?

We can still put the "request membership" plugin on the list, but we know already that it is not maintained any more with the latest versions. (And we do not really need it, if we carry out the inheritance by default from the /cta/ project to all sub-projects.)

This needs in fact to be checked. We're actually using them on an older Redmine version (1.3.1).

From the respective Websites I see:
  • DMSF is compatible with 2.3.x
  • Backlogs idem
  • Wiki GChart apparently not compatible. This is a nice to have plugin (to include formulae on Wiki pages). We may survive without it, although it's pretty nice.

Okay. Otherwise, I see the Issue is rather static, so if no other plugins come up within the next days I would like to ask Cecile to go ahead with the installation request to CC IN2P3.

But since we're chatting so nicely, I'm wondering whether it was normal that CC IN2P3 is so slow in responding to our requests. This worries me a little concerning the future usage of the Redmine site. One of the reason of installing our own Redmine at IRAP was to have full control over the tool, enabling a quick installation of what we need. We could also think about this possibility loudly for CTA (given the size of the project, a CTA own Redmine installation would not be luxory ...)

CC IN2P3 can respond very quickly. It is a matter of priorities.

I suggest to put this point on the agenda for June 5th. @Cécile ?

I doubt that you will have a redmine instance operational with connection to the CTA user database and quasi-infinite maintenance granted for as little cost as with CC. But it is worth a thought or two. We should just avoid that we end up with three redmine instances in CTA and yet another one with trac.

Sometimes stability and high level of availability implies also to resign from the latest fashioned features on a server system used by hundreds of users.

I agree with both of you and I will put this point on the agenda for June 5th.

In the meantime, I try my best to make it go further: I have opened a ticket for DMSF one month ago, asked for news last week, but I have no answer yet.

Hi

We cannot install all the plugins the users want without any evaluation on our side. We need to be sure the plugin will be actively maintained in the future, and we have to test it to avoid side effects.
For your information, when we upgraded to last redmine version, we had to uninstall most of the plugins.
The manpower dedicated here to redmine is short (but not null).
For the dmsf plugin, we tested it last week and it will be deployed this week.
For the other plugins, the next possibility to work on it is after june 14.

Thanks for the transfer into the Forge project.

For reference, here are the two additional plugins requested as result of our meeting today (and Sylvie's excellent tour through the IRAP redmine):
